Recognized management specialist whose practical pointers have helped many owner-operators realize the dreams they went into business to pursue…
His name is Chuck Violand, and he is no stranger to the problems of today’s professional service company—especially carpet cleaning and disaster restoration. He began his career by founding a residential/commercial cleaning and restoration company in Northeast Ohio, which he owned for 26 years.
Today, through his consultancy, Violand Management Associates (VMA), Chuck devotes himself full time to showing his clients how to develop profits in their own businesses. His skills in business planning, sales building, and leadership development are being tapped by companies across the United States. The successes of Chuck’s clients confirm his effectiveness. VMA is now in its third decade as a teaching, training, and business-consulting resource.
Chuck became known to many for his no-nonsense approach to building businesses through his regular contributions to trade publications that serve professional carpet cleaners and restorers.
Chuck’s direct, lively delivery has also made him a popular speaker and workshop leader at regional and national meetings and expositions, where he has shared his expertise with thousands of business owners.
Scott Tackett is one of Violand Management’s Business Development Specialists. He is a facilitator, business trainer, and Kent State University adjunct professor whose career has focused on human resource management. Scott’s involvement as an instructor at Violand’s annual Executive Summits gave him firsthand experience in the business management problems faced by cleaners and restorers.
In 2007, Scott began working full-time with Chuck Violand in his unique service to business owners and managers, many of whom have a need for people-management skills. Businesses whose bottom lines depend on people serving people have special human-relations challenges. These are issues Scott has spent his career addressing.
Scott capped a 32-year career in the tire manufacturing industry, having started on the shop floor doing janitorial and other general labor jobs before moving into supervision, and eventually becoming vice president of human resources and administration, a post he held for 16 years. He earned his bachelor’s degree in human resource management, and his master’s degree in organizational leadership, both from Geneva College. The considerable human-resource expertise, strategic planning skills, hands-on teaching style, and roll-up-your-sleeves attitude Scott possesses are tailor made for the cleaning and restoration industry.
Tim Hull is one of Violand Management’s Business Development Specialists, with an expertise in operations. Formerly, he was branch manager at a disaster restoration company with over 50 employees and $6M in annual revenues before moving on to become general manager, then national disaster-response manager, at a leading disaster restorer, environmental remediator, and reconstruction company with approximately $100 million in annual revenues. As emergency operations chief, he built the company’s infrastructure to manage its national network of 100 strategic partners, developed and put into place its emergency response procedures, and instituted its training practices.
Tim’s introduction to the industry started early and came through the building trades. In high school he worked for a custom home builder. During college and afterwards he moved into the supply side of the business where he found his niche managing high-volume accounts. Today, Tim is a major league player in an intensely competitive part of our industry where operational know-how is critical.
Tim earned his bachelor’s degree in business from Montana State University. His mastery of large-scale restoration operations belies his young professional career. What Tim brings to others who face operational challenges in this industry is his firsthand insight into their problems and the systems and procedures used to solve them.
